From my earliest childhood memories, I have been consumed with designing and creating. I was eager to fashion Barbie outfits and home furnishings, produce delectables in my childhood sandbox and try to sketch Tippy the Turtle or the Pirate for a scholarship to art school (Okay now who remembers that?). Now I prefer to paint with watercolors, host formal dinner parties and shop for home accessories. Color, ambiance and style all make me smile, and a perfectly finished room gives me a bubbling sense of satisfaction.
My creative road has not been a straight and narrow path, but a broad, winding and scenic road. I’ve spent time in retail fashion, window staging, display advertising design, sales, early childhood education, and non-profit event planning as well as offering styling assitance to family and friends.
For the last sixteen years I have been the Creative Director for Lang Furniture, a commercial furniture manufacturing company that my husband, Lyle, and I own. My duties at Lang Furniture have been a cornucopia of creativity, where I have gained a wide range of experience developing unique room atmospheres. Staging showrooms and photography sets for our furniture certainly ranked highest on my list of favorite things to do. I’ve had amazing opportunities to design furniture, work with global décor paper manufacturers, develop new print catalogs, oversee website make-overs and establish marketing plans and promotional materials. Most recently with the shift of physical photography to computer-generated imaging, I have been working diligently to hone my skills in that design area as well. Each creative opportunity I have experienced has contributed significantly to bring me to this moment and to the creation of MaryKnoll Design.
It’s not my style to make the design process complicated. If you have a project, a dream or a deadline to meet, give me a call, send me an email or text me. I would love to talk to you about what you have in mind. After an initial conversation, together we can develop a plan forward, talk about expectations, budget and timeline.
Every project is unique and pricing will differ according to your specific needs and budget.
My furry partner
Meet Violet, my one-year old English Cocker Spaniel. She oversees almost all that I do from my feet or my lap. Sometimes she has an opinion, but mostly she just waits for me to throw her ball, rub her belly, or put on my shoes so we can go for a run! With a face like that, she gets away with just about anything!
I have a soft spot in my heart for historic homes. I’ve owned and restored one authentic historic beauty and now live in a historic replica house built‑in 1983. My husband and I purchased this 1890’s era Massachusetts Georgian manor home in 2010. We are about two-thirds of the way through the revitalization project and have made significant changes, most notably the overall landscaping. We love this home, our family loves this home and it has been my inspiration in naming MaryKnoll Design.
